You ever go to a Mediterranean restaurant and you’re left in awe at all the sauces, dips, and spreads?
I mean, I worked at one spot in high school, back when I wasn’t very savvy with too many cultural cuisines, and I’ll never forget how shocked I was at everything. From the hummus, to the tabbouleh, to the baba ghanoush, I could not believe I had been deprived of all these great things all that time.
So, let me put you on to one of my favorite Mediterranean sauces: Tzatziki. Check out the full video recipe below or click here!

I ALWAYS confuse it with tahini, also a Middle Eastern sauce but it’s made with toasted sesame seeds. Very different in flavor, but they both start with the letter T and are white in color so I always get mixed up. Find a great tahini sauce recipe here.
What do I need to make Greek Tzatziki Sauce?
- Greek Yogurt. You can definitely use regular yogurt here, but Greek yogurt already has tangy taste and is thicker and that’s the consistency we’re looking for. Make sure whatever yogurt you use is plain!
- Cucumber. We’re going to shredded it so it doesn’t have to be a pretty one.
- Garlic. Minced because we don’t want huge chunks of garlic in the tzatziki.
- Olive Oil. Because it’s necessary.
- Distilled White Vinegar. Brings some tanginess to the party.
- Salt & Pepper. Don’t forget to season!!!
Why make Tzatziki Sauce at home?
Can’t you just go buy it at the store for a few bucks. Well, yes. You can get just about anything premade at the store. The reason why I urge you to make this delicious sauce at home is because, like most things, it is incredibly better when it is homemade and it is so easy to make! Now, I’m not here to compete with an authentic Greek restaurant. But I can attest that this homemade tzatziki will be better than the one you grab from the supermarket!
