Minion Land at Universal Studios Orlando soft launched their much-anticipated Minion Café over the weekend. The event was invite only but those who were allowed to sample the grulicious dishes shared their thoughts and most importantly, the menu.
What’s on the menu?
The long list of food begins with the Despica-Bowls. Kevin’s Chopa Chopa Salad contains purple cabbage and arugula, tomatoes, cucumber, edamame, crispy pork belly, pulled rotisserie chicken, green banana chips and a mustard ale vinaigrette. Next is Carl’s Crispy Cauliflower with sweet & spicy chili sauce, coconut blue rice, Thai cucumbers, and edamame. There have been several complaints of the coconut rice tasting very little like coconut so keep that in mind when ordering.
Otto’s Noodle Bowl boasts delicious slow roasted porchetta, udon noodles, tare egg, cilantro, roast corn, shrimp dumpling, and tonkotsu broth. Agnes’ Honeymoon Soup is a green tomato soup, crispy pork belly, tomato gummy bear, basil oil served with a pimento cheddar grilled cheese sandwich that are shaped to look like waffles. El Macho’s y Salsa Ropa Vieja is braised beef with tomato cucumber salad, cilantro rice, salsa roja and El Macho tostones.
Lucy’s Top-Secret Salmon is a fishy concoction of wood-grilled Atlantic salmon, coconut blue rice, Thai cucumbers, edamame, and lipstick taser sauce. Chicken Stuart’s Szechuan Surprise invites you to try its Szechuan glazed rotisserie chicken and stir-fried vegetable lo mein.
The next section on the menu is handheld food options. It starts off with Uncle Dru’s Belly Fillin’ Pork Sandwich with slow roasted porchetta, chimichurri sauce, mustard aioli, apple butter, bacon jam, arugula, Hawaiian pretzel bun, and green banana chips. And it ends with a Steak and “Cheese Ray” Sandwich with french onion dipped roast beef, caramelized onions, secret sauce, cheesy blast pimento cheese on a cheddar & onion roll.
The Off the Flames portion of the menu only offers one meal. Mel’s Meatball Sandwich is a simple wood oven baked stuffed pizza with meatballs, basil, fresh mozzarella and marinara.
What about desserts?
Now the most visually appealing section of the menu, the desserts. The Fluffy Unicorn Cupcake is a confetti cupcake, vanilla & bubble gum icing, topped with a chocolate unicorn horn. Bob’s Teddy Bear Chocolate Cream Puff is filled with a chocolate whipped ganache. The Minion Swiss Roll is a vanilla cake with a pineapple cardamom whipped ganache, passion fruit “banana” with a chocolate shell. And last but certainly not least, Otto’s Pet Rock which is a peanut butter mousse, strawberry jelly, crushed peanuts, banana cake dipped in a chocolate shell.
The sides include minion tots, green banana chips, coconut blue rice, and a mini banana. All options are under seven dollars to order separately.
What about drinks?
For beverages, you can order the traditional juice, milk, coffee, and hot chocolate options for a non-alcoholic beverage. You can also order the two specialty beverages. The PX-41 Punch Lemonade contains Lemonade with bright flavors of strawberry and kiwi, with Evil Minion-colored topping and Blue Raspberry Pop Rocks. The Antidote is described as having oodles of banana flavor with Minion-colored topping and graham cracker crumbles. You can also purchase a souvenir cup for $17.99 and get over 100 hundred refills a day. And you can add an extra day of refills to the cup you purchased for $10.99.
As for alcoholic beverages, the canned beer options include Wells Banana Bread and a simple Bud Light. The Minion Café also offers two kinds of wine; a Spellbound Cabernet Sauvignon and a Noble Vines 446 Chardonnay.
And last, the Mini Minion’s Menu. Mini Boss’ Mega Melt is a pimento cheddar grilled cheese with Minion tots and a mini banana. The Freedonia Festival of Mac and Cheese is exactly what it sounds like, mini shells tossed in a creamy white cheddar cheese sauce with Minion tots and a mini banana. Shrunken Moonballs with Flying Sauce are mini meatballs in marinara over spaghetti with Minion tots and a mini banana. Mr. Gru’s PB & Jelly is pressed peanut butter & Gru’s jelly sandwich with Minion tots and a mini banana.
Along with the Minion Café, Minion Land unveiled their Pop-A-Nana Popcorn Stand. The stand offers banana flavored popcorn as well as regular popcorn. The Minions Selfie Stick Popcorn Bucket and Minions Car Popcorn Bucket are at the stand, so you can refill your popcorn for $3.93. The specialty drinks from Minin Café, PX-41 Punch Lemonade and The Antidote, are also available to purchase. Fountain Drinks and beer are also on the menu.
Freeze Ray Pops is a popsicle stand that hosts delicious frozen assortments. The Gru Popsicle is Nutella flavored with the villain/hero’s symbol on the hard shell outside the treat. The Minion Popsicle is a Blue Banana interior with a minion decorated outer shell. The regular popsicle menu includes Mango, Strawberry, Coconut, Blueberry Lemonade, Cotton Candy, Cheesecake, Lemon Mint, and Cookies & Cream options.
There are two gift shops in Minion Land. Villain-Con Minion Blast’s gift shop “Evil Stuff” offers an array of merchandise but other than the vending machine in the back, there is no food there. However, the other gift shop Bake My Day does host a variety of sweet treats. Traditional candy apples as well as a specialty “Minion Apple”. A host of different macarons with various Despicable Me decorations adoring them. There are unicorn, purple minion, and teddy bear shaped s’mores to choose from. The shop also has lollipops and cotton candy available.
Minion Land’s newest additions are set to officially open this summer. With rumors of Universal Studios Florida employees testing the new rides, it seems it’s likely to happen soon. I would recommend to start making vacation plans if you want to be able to visit the much-anticipated opening when it happens.
