French fries are one of those things that I crave at least once a month. They’re crunchy, crispy, and make a great at-home movie snack or be enjoyed as a side with cheeseburgers on summer grilling days or oven-baked crispy chicken in cooler months. This recipe uses the air fryer, which is a healthier, but also arguably tastier, alternative to the deep-frying method of traditional fries.

Ingredients
- Potatoes: This recipe uses russet potatoes, but other types can be used. Keep in mind that your fries may result in softer or crispier textures depending on your choice of potato.
- Oil: This recipe uses olive oil but vegetable oil can also be used. Oil helps seasoning to stick the potatoes and helps make the outside of the fries crispy while the inside remains soft.
- Spices and seasonings: This recipe uses salt, black pepper, gochugaru (Korean dried red chili pepper flakes), paprika, and garlic powder. You can use seasonings of choice or omit spice based on preference.
Preparation
- Potatoes: This recipe keeps the skin on the potatoes but you can peel them if you’d like. First, scrub the skin of the potatoes to clean. Then, cut the potatoes into 1/4 inch strands. Make sure that all cuts are closely sized so that they all cook evenly once they’re in the fryer. Once all potatoes are cut, rinse them under cold water and pat them dry to remove excess starch (removing the starch will help the potato become crispy and not washing it off will result in not crunchy and even mushy fries). When potatoes are dry, transfer to a large bowl
- Seasonings: Drizzle the potatoes with oil and sprinkle the seasonings directly onto the fries. Make sure to toss frequently so that the various seasonings are evenly spread throughout the fries. Feel free to add more seasonings as you seem fit.
- Air Fry: Set air fryer to 380F (there is no need to preheat the air fryer). Transfer the coated fries into the air fryer. Depending on the basket of your air fryer, you may need to cook the fries in batches. Set the timer on the air fryer for 20 minutes. Toss the fries halfway through to prevent them from sticking to the basket. Once golden and crispy, it is ready to serve! You may garnish with fresh parsley or grated parmesan cheese if desired.
Fries can be served with dips such as ranch, ketchup, or any dip of preference, and alongside other dishes (such chicken wings, cheeseburger, pizza, sandwich varieties, and more)!

Air Fryer French Fry Recipe
Crispy and seasoned to preference, these French fries will satisfy your fry cravings without the guilt of deep-fry oils. Perfect for to be enjoyed as snack or side.
Ingredients
- 1 lbs russet potatoes (around 3 medium potatoes)
- 2 tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp gochugaru optional
- garnish with fresh parsley and parmesan cheese optional
Instructions
- Scrub to clean the skin of the potatoes.
- Cut the potatoes lengthwise into even 1/4 inch strips. Rinse strips in cold water and pat dry thoroughly.
- Add the fries into a large bowl and drizzle with oil and sprinkle with seasonings. Toss to evenly coat.
- Set air fryer to 380F and transfer the fries into the air fryer basket. Cook for 20 minutes, or until golden. Toss halfway through to prevent sticking.
- Garnish if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
If you have a smaller capacity air fryer, cook in smaller batches. Once all batches are cooked, return all fries to the air fryer for a couple of minutes to re-warm since the first batch would be cool by the time the second batch is cooked.
